You’re walking back to your car when you see it. That painful bright yellow slab of paper pinned against your windshield by your wiper. You cross your fingers, hoping that it’s just another annoying flyer… but, with your luck, it’s a ticket… Great! So the big question: fight it or pay it?
Our natural instinct is to fight it, because it’s a stupid ticket and you really weren’t THAT far away from the curb. You haul out your camera phone to take pictures of the position of your car, proof to show the judge that you weren’t violating any law. What do you think your chances of winning are? Well, the 2005 Staff Report provided by the City of Toronto shows that you have a less than 20% chance of winning. So think about all the work you have to go through to fight the ticket: taking the pictures, driving to court, telling your parents not to worry about it, etc…all for a measly 20% chance.
The verdict is in: it just isn’t worth it – pay the ticket and don’t park there next time!
